The Beausejour Otter's Swim Club is a competitive swim team that takes part in Swim Manitoba's Summer Grand Prix league. We begin swimming practices in May/June each year and compete in swim meets across Manitoba beginning in early July and culminating with the Grand Prix Championships in late August. Swim meets consist of races in front crawl, back crawl, butterfly, breaststroke, and medleys (all four strokes). We practice three days a week from 5:45pm - 7pm at the Beasuejour Community Pool
At competitions, swimmers are grouped by gender into age categories consisting of 8 & Under, 9 & 10 year olds, 11 & 12 year olds, 13 & 14 year olds, and 15 & Over. Ages for competition are based on a swimmer's birth year.
Our club stands as a competitive team engaged in challenging swim-offs against fellow swim clubs hailing from rural Manitoba. It is therefore anticipated that every swimmer possesses the capability to execute an uninterrupted 25 meters swim. This competence is expected alongside the foundational skills acquired through prior participation in swim lessons before joining our team.
We actively advocate for swimmers to be present at all scheduled meets. Our coaches will be on hand to provide guidance in selecting the most suitable races for each swimmer's strengths.
The responsibility of transportation to and from swim meets rests with the parents or guardians of the swimmers. As for financial matters, fees and fundraising expectations may vary on an annual basis. For more comprehensive details regarding these aspects, please feel free to reach out to our team management.

No. While we do focus on stroke technique, the technical requirements learned in speed swimming are different than those used in water safety. For this reason, we have several skill requirements required before joining the team. Those interested in joining the club, should have basic water skills, including the ability to swim in the deep end without fear and complete a 25 m distance of front crawl.
All swimmers looking to join the team must have completed Level 3 swimming lessons and have the ability to successfully swim 25m front crawl, without the need to stop and grab the wall. Front crawl technique must meet the competition regulations set by Swim Manitoba. Coaches will access new swimmers to see if they are ready to join the team.
While all meets are extremely encouraged, only one meet is mandatory. Be aware that the thrill and excitement of racing at a meet is truly a unique experience and you and your child(ren) may become hooked!
Practices are held at the Splash Pool, Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:45-7:00 pm. All swimmers will begin practice on the East side of the pool, where activation and training will take place before heading into the water.
Swimmers need the following:
1. Bathing suit (one piece for girls; jammers for boys)
2. Towel
3. Water Bottle (no glass please)
4. Runners
5. Goggles
6. Swim Cap (available for purchase at practice)
7. A good attitude and willingness to work hard!
The following protocols will be in place:
● Parents will be allowed to be at the pool while their child is swimming. Only the SWIMMERS will be allowed pool side unless we need a parent volunteer.
● Swimmers are to come dressed for practice. Washrooms are available and Change rooms are accessible as well but the preference is that the children come dressed for practice.
● We ask that parents ensure they help their kids put on their swim caps before practice, so that coaches are not needing to do that for them. Also we ask that they try out goggles beforehand so that practice time is not wasted adjusting and fiddling with goggles.
Parents are to assist with our swim tournaments as we usually host a large event at our home pool. We also ask the following from parents:
● Assist at the start of practice installing lane ropes and cleaning up ropes at the end of each practice. This ensures your kids get the most out of each practice and time is being wasted on putting in and taking out ropes.
● Coaches will also occasionally ask parents to volunteer throughout the season at practices to assist with things such as timing swimmers etc., for measuring progress and sending times in to Swim Manitoba.
